The 1st of March 2019 sees the release of Can You Hear Us at the Back the highly anticipated new album from seminal Cape Town based folk punk band The Shabs.
To celebrate the release the band have announced dates for their European launch tour which kicks off at the end of February and will include shows in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
Vocalist and guitarist Jon Shaban can’t wait to get back over to Europe, “We’re super excited to be heading back to Europe in February to start a month-long release tour for ‘Can You Hear us at the Back’. This 4 weeklong tour of Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Austria will be our shortest one yet but we’re playing the same amount of shows we’ve done on our previous 6-week long tours. This will be our fourth European tour and over the last 4 years we have seen awesome development in support of the band. This year we are squeezing in some new places we’ve never been to before and we are really looking forward to working with some new people as well as some friends who have played pivotal roles in the success we’ve had in Europe. The fact that we get to travel and play music is really a dream come true for us and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who continually helps us propel this band forward.”

About The Shabs
The Shabs is a Folk Punk band from Cape Town South Africa. Having gigged extensively across South Africa and Europe for the past 6 years they deliver a tight, captivating set that blends sincere, melodic sing-along folk with the raw energy and DIY ethos of punk rock. Drawing influences from artists such as Frank Turner, Erik Petersen and Against Me!, the band never ceases to get a crowd to throw their fists in the air and sing along to their anthemic tunes which have been described as honest, raw and easy to relate to.
The band is made up of Jon Shaban on guitar and vocals, Ryan McArthur on double bass and backing vocals and Jon Case on drums, as well as frequent collaborations with female vocalists. Each musician brings their own flare and flavour to the music, adding to the uniqueness of their fresh ‘’High Quality Folk Punk” sound.
Since the release of their debut album “Folk is Dead” in February 2016 they have toured relentlessly around South Africa (performing at festivals like Rocking The Daisies, Mieliepop, STRAB, Park Acoustics and FORR) as well as three very successful, 6-week European tours
(UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Rep, Belgium) where they were favourites at festivals like Mighty Sounds (twice), No Borders No Nations, Earthquake and Ziva Ulice.
2018 saw The Shabs launch a split album, “Deja View” with SA folk punk legends, Rambling Bones.
The Shabs plan to release their second full-length album at the beginning of 2019 supported by a South African and European tour.
