DEITUS’ sophomore album originally saw the light of day late 2018 on CD format through I, Voidhanger Records and on cassette via Dawnbreed Records. The latter now issues a limited run on vinyl in cooperation with Vinyl Compvlsion. This gem made available on pitch black as well as ceremonial white wax. 90 and 190 copies respectively. Release date is set for 10th May 2019.
The London-based three-piece can be considered as one of the leaders of a new generation of black metal. Already impressing with the 2016 debut “Acta Non Verba” they refined their compositional skills on “Via Dolorosa”. Heavily rooted in the tradition of grim black metal DEITUS don’t shy away from using sinister melodies reminding of acts like Dissection. And even showing respect to days of yore when the NWOBHM ruled supreme. The title track being a prime example.
Showcasing magnificent musicianship DEITUS stand out in a scene where everyone else seem to copy what has been done before. With additional guitar leads by S of Qrixkuor and William Jackson of Inconcessus Lux Lucisthings really fall in place. Adding the outstanding production courtesy of Greg Chandler (Esoteric) at the Priory Recording Studios we can easily state “Via Dolorosa” is a contemporary black metal classic!
Make sure you catch DEITUS live on stage in 2019 too. They will appear on renowned festivals such as Incineration Fest in London, Odyssey to Blasphemy III in Germany, and Sangre y Fuego para Mictlantecuhtli in Mexico. Besides that a US-tour is in the works as well.
