Small towns do not always welcome the dark creativity that fuels the soul of heavy metal. Multi-instrumentalist Justin Pierrot, now of Burnaby, British Columbia — One of the most diverse cities in Canada — found himself alone in his musical pursuits and took matters into his own hands. The result: Stormland, a one-man death metal act that has evolved over decades as Pierrot hones his craft and interests.
Originally conceived in 2003, Pierrot recorded Stormland’s first song with the help of a drummer friend. After beginning audio engineering studies at the Center for Arts & Technologies Okanagan in 2005, Pierrot was soon able to apply new principles in songwriting, recording, and drum programming to his project. These early songs were raw, but a kernel of what would become the Stormland sound was there: guitars that went from buzz-saw speed to pile-driving groove on a dime, classic rock-informed soloing, and dynamic death metal vocals.
Fast forward to the present: Stormland is resurgent, and is now on ready to release a new EP, Incident Report: UC-0791227 into the world. This follows 2009’s politically-themed Colbert Made Me Do It demo and 2015’s fantastical True, North, Strong, and Cranky EP, and 2018’s Gundam-inspired Songs of Future Wars. Incident Report: UC-0791227 continues in the Gundam vein, recreating an original, post-combat incident report from Gundam’s One Year War and setting it to ripping death metal.
Incident Report: UC-07912267 will be unleashed October 11th, 2019, with the fifth track, a cover of Matthew Wilder’s “Break My Stride” available for streaming soon. Pre-orders are available on Bandcamp (https://stormland.bandcamp.com), as well as limited “Dossier Edition” CD-Rs and two pairs of custom-painted HG 1/144 scale Gundam Models made by Pierrot/Stormland himself. Contact Dewar PR for coverage opportunities with this unique and evolving heavy metal artist.
