Ritual Productions recently revealed a new Basalt rite, Silêncio Como Respiração, is on the imminent horizon. We’re now excited to reveal the video for the track, ‘Anamorfose’.
‘Anamorfose’ is a thorough trawl through the darker side of human experience: haunting doubt, duality and despair – cataloging insecurities, meaning and demise. Basalt’s vocalist Marcelo Fonseca, who wrote all the lyrics for Silêncio Como Respiração, elaborates: “The lack of answers and fears about uncertainties in life haunt most humans. So creating comforting falsehoods like gods and heavenly narratives to ameliorate our existence is a filthy habit mankind just cannot kick.”
A display of the many influences present in Basalt’s music, ‘Anamorfose’ conducts an initial suffocating drag into a full speed epic race to the grave.
Silêncio Como Respiração exemplifies Basalt’s seething mistrust and subsequent undying defiant spirit in the face of repulsive political rhetoric and tumultuous times. The release marks the band’s first full-length for Ritual Productions, having welcomed them into our roster back in 2018. 2019 saw a re-mastering – by labelmate Adam Richardson (11PARANOIAS / Ramesses) – of their their debut album, O Coração Negro da Terra (translates to ‘Black Heart of the Earth‘) on digital platforms only. The songs from their debut album are included as bonus tracks with the CD version of Silêncio Como Respiração.
Silêncio Como Respiração was recorded at Dissenso Studio, São Paulo followed by additional recording at Kaum Estúdio, São Paulo between 2018-2019. Mixed by Muriel Curi (Dissenso Studio), mastered by Neto Grous (Absolute Master) with executive production courtesy of Ritual Productions.
MORE ON BASALT:
Formed in 2015, in the riff metropolis of São Paulo, Brazil, Basalt unify elements of doom, black metal and dark experimental tones, subverting musical archetypes and create new extreme audio terrains. Harkening to the dense low-end, cavernous and intense depths of the heavy sonic, the band fuse this fury with extraordinary ambient and atmospheric scope, incorporating a unique channelling of influences and sounds. Melding rawness and discordance with progressive and expansive breadth, Basalt truly wield aural transgression and transformation.
