CHTHONIC release episode 2 of their podcast: Metalhead Politics

Metalhead Politics, the podcast co-produced by Taiwanese metal band CHTHONIC and Ghost Island Media, is releasing its second episode: Systematic Oppression on July 1st. It’s co-host by CHTHONIC vocalist Freddy Lim and Ghost Island Media co-founder Emily Y. Wu.

Episode 2 of Metalhead Politics focuses on the Black Lives Matter movement, protests in Hong Kong, and systematic oppression in different societies. Along with the inspiring protests against racism and police brutality in the U.S., Episode 2 encourages our international audience to also pay attention to other systematic oppressions in the world, such as Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang, and speak out for those who do not even have the right to protest.

Besides the serious issues, Episode 2 does not lack pleasant moments. In Episode 2, Freddy and Emily talk about the recall of Kaohsiung mayor Han Guo-yu and Taiwan’s late decriminalization of adultery. Freddy even tried to teach Emily and the audience how to “death growl”. The music section of Episode 2 will play the music from Hong Kong Hip-hop/rock band LMF (Lazy Mutha Fucka). Freddy also revealed how he usually writes music and talked about his journey of finding his cultural root in Taiwanese melody and lyrics.

After its release, Metalhead Politics’ first episode: Democracy (in Times of Crisis) received great response. The podcast ranked 6th in the Apple Podcasts overall ranking, even rose to top 1 in the category of news commentary. Also, it is well received by international listeners, who are mainly in the U.S., Germany, the U.K., Hong Kong, and Australia. The second episode will maintain this momentum to keep in touch with all fans of CHTHONIC and metalheads all around the world. Through metal music and politics, Metalhead Politics will continue to let more people in the world hear about Taiwan.

The second episode of Metalhead Politics is out now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and other podcast platforms. Besides listening to the podcast, you can also find the highlight video of the second episode on Chthonic’s YouTube channel. Welcome to subscribe or follow.
