Hypnagogic Hallucinations, the demented and bludgeoning debut album from Rome, Italy’s macabre death metal outfit, BEDSORE, is now streaming in its entirety on the verge of its official release through 20 Buck Spin this Friday.
BEDSORE’s Hypnagogic Hallucinations is a debut album of considerable imagination and subconscious peculiarity, an uninhibited first step for a band emboldened to travel to the farthest reaches of the possible within the celestial spheres of death metal.
Hypnagogic Hallucinations was mixed and mastered by Marco S. (Malokarpatan, Mayhem, Thulsa Doom, Demonomancy) and features guest vocals/synth from Giorgio Trombino (Assumption Haemophagus) on the track “Cauliflower Growth.” The record’s artwork and layout illustrations were handled by T. Ketola (Dead Congregation, Necros Christos, Teitanblood), the layout completed with logo artwork by Samu Salovaara (Krypts, Triumvir Foul) and photography by Void Revelations (Urfaust, Tchnorbog, King Dude). The record is a must-hear release for fans of Ghastly, Black Hole, Morbus Chron, Sweven, Sentenced, Sepulchur, Execration, Venenum, and Goblin.

Warping minds and matter with their two-track 2018 demo, BEDSORE came to the attention of 20 Buck Spin, who together in twisting conspiracy now issues the band’s proper full-length, marking the first Italian band to sign with the label. Hypnagogic Hallucinations is a fitting title for the dark lucid dreamscapes and obscure fantasia BEDSORE delivers on their debut. Like an Argento film, the Roman band paints the canvas of death metal in vivid bright washes of ornamented color and stabs of inventive horror that belies the corporeal grotesquery of the band’s name. Probing into the brain through psychedelic digression and winding hypnotic prog a protean world of weird organic contours and mysterious meaning take shape.
“It’s hard to think of a better opening statement for BEDSORE than Hypnagogic Hallucinations. It shows how unique this band’s sound really is in the current death metal landscape. It’ll be a hard debut to top, but the scene can always use a band that carves out a unique niche right off the bat.” – Metal Injection
“The album continues to bob and weave, sometimes floating high in the consciousness and sometimes falling into deep pits of despair where guitars become muddled, heavily layered and full of depression. The band vacillates between these extremes while deftly mixing in solos, barreling riffs, squeals, and purely blackened sections of death. It is, to say the least, a very welcome chaotic experience in a time of endless confusion. BEDSORE seem to have recorded this album in 4,000 places at once using numerous instruments, amps, spells, cadavers, etc. The resulting album feels not only timely but timeless.” – Last Rites
“BEDSORE’s Hypnagogic Hallucinations is a death metal album built on top of many layers that reveal a different nightmare as they are peeled back. Considering how young this band is, this full-length debut is extremely impressive and promising. If they can harness their sound and find a way to go even further into the void’s reaches, while still keeping their death/black roots, then they will become even more of a force to be reckoned with. 8/10” – Metal Temple
“It’s easy to get caught up in BEDSORE’s strangeness and psychotic visions, but don’t let that divert you from how deadly their playing is, and how strong these dream-like death blasts are from start to finish. Hypnagogic Hallucinations is a mentally punishing record, an incredibly stellar debut album from these Italian beasts that’ll play over and over in your end. This is an adventurous, psychologically stimulating record that’s going to be a blast to investigate on subsequent visits.” – Meat Mead Metal
“BEDSORE‘s first trip is absolutely worth getting to know in great depth and though it will foremost appeal to listeners seeking apeiron-yanked celestial death metal sauntering, there is great potential for its detailed innards to eventually spill out upon folks interested in classic progressive death metal permutation. Hypnagogic Hallucinations is an essential listen for 2020 and as such I’ve given highest possible recommendation of it. 10/10” – Grizzly Butts
