Nearly six years ago French mastermind Ardraos finished SÜHNOPFER‘s second album, “Offertoire“, and unleashed his vision of melodic medieval Black Metal onto the scene. The seven compositions aged well and it is time to return triumphantly and crowned with glory, as Ardraos sings in the song “Messe des morts“. Those Opposed Records, who originally released “Offertoire“, just announced a repress of this modern classic and Debemur Morti Productions is proud to announce not only an exclusive DMP variant on milky clear heavy vinyl with black and gold splatters, but also a noble white t-shirt featuring the original design. This vinyl version, which is exclusively sold via the label’s EU and US webshops, is limited to 100 copies and available immediately.
“The title of the album refers to an epitaph from the vaults of the first lords of Bourbon, “Bourbonnais” being the name of the ancient medieval province in which I was born, and so were my ancestors, amidst its wooded countryside, forests and ruins, located in the heart of France“, states Ardraos in an interview with Moshpit Nation in the year 2019, when asked what the title of SÜHNOPFER’s third album “Hic Regnant Borbonii Manes” means.
While “Offertoire” offers a glimpse into the past of Ardraos’ artistic craftmanship, “Hic Regnant Borbonii Manes” (2019) is still growing in intensity and evokes the ancient medieval ghosts of the French province for those who are willing to lend their ears. Melodic, yet powerful Black Metal meets the sound and mood of the people of Bourbonnais in the heart of France. Created into the deep lands of the Bourbons in 2000, SÜHNOPFER is the Black Metal project of multi-instrumentalist and sole member Ardraos (also drummer for CHRISTICIDE, AORLHAC). SÜHNOPFER has since built up a discography of three demos, an EP (“L’Aube des Trépassés“, 2007) and 3 full-length albums: “Nos Sombres Chapelles” (2010), “Offertoire” (2014) and the first offering via Debemur Morti Productions, namely “Hic Regnant Borbonii Manes” in Mai 2019.
SÜHNOPFER delivers a violent medieval and melodic atmosphere, with themes dealing with a medieval, knightly, obscurantist and religious dimension, by adding typical aspects of his powerful and glorious homeland.
