After the success of the band’s latest, critically acclaimed third album ”Grasping Time” (2019), Vokonis immediately went into recording more material. With the goal set to further expand the prog landscape, Vokonis crafted recordings that are more dynamically diverse and forward-thinking than ever before. Ranging from full-blown doom to melodically blissful passages, the new material features guest musician Per Wiberg (Opeth, Spiritual Beggars, Kamchatka) on Keyboard.

The first of these recordings released is called ”Through the Depths”. The song hints of a new era for Vokonis, with obvious and tangible progressive influences combined with stand out choruses, blending Jonte‘s clean vocal lines with Simon‘s aggressive bark. All backed up by the rhythmical patterns provided by the band‘s new drummer Peter Ottosson.

Through the Depths” tackles mental illness. Guitarist/vocalist Simon explains the meaning behind the lyrics;

“All members in our band have suffered or suffer from mental illness. We’ve used music as our outlet for a while now. We felt that we should dedicate one song to this matter lyrically, “Through The Depths” deal with the feelings of banding together, not isolating in yourself and go through it together.”

Through the Depths” is out this Friday on all digital platforms. Vokonis is set to release more new material in the near future.
