ARTERIES Release their Savage New Single ‘Play Nice’

Sydney’s Hardcore Heavyweights Arteries are crashing into 2021 with the full force of a sledgehammer dropping their savage new single ‘Play Nice’. Beginning at a slow and menacing pace accompanied by sinister visuals, the listener is lulled into a false sense of security before being abruptly projectiled into a maelstrom of djent riffs, brutal breakdowns and magnetic vocals which evoke the polished ferociousness of extreme metal legendaries such as Meshuggah and The Dillinger Escape Plan. As the opening track on their highly anticipated upcoming album, ‘Play Nice’ showcases a great deal of intensity and sonic assault in its vicious yet captivating runtime of 2.5 minutes.

Frontman Brendan Dafter explains “Play Nice is inspired by the new age North Victorian Australian religious cult in the 1970s known as ‘the family’ who was led by a woman who claimed she is Jesus reborn (aren’t they always?) named Ann Hamilton-Byrne. Byrne stole children from other cult members and raised them under the impression they were her own. The children were constantly abused and drugged by LSD and some are still alive to this day and is written from the perspective of the children who escaped. The song started as just the main djenty riff which Daniel first brought to the band as an intro to the album but soon shelved it as the band started going in a different direction at the time. I loved the riff and had it recorded on my phone and one night at home wrote the lyrics and melody feeling inspired after watching the cult of the family’ documentary. The song was fairly straightforward to record for guitars and vocals but the kick patterns are pretty insane and took some time to nail for Zak (Drummer) but overall I’m so stoked with the result and the song really speaks for itself. Although it’s short and sweet, Play Nice is a straight-up banger for me and one of my favorite Arteries tracks”

Following a successful release of their debut album ‘This Will Destroy Us’, the band shared stages with International Heavy Music Powerhouses such as Architects, Norma Jean, Raised Fist and Protest the Hero; Homegrown Heroes such as Northlane, King Parrot, Lo!, Totally Unicorn as well as securing regular slots at UNIFY Gathering, Dead of Winter and Halloween Hysteria. With this bold and brash release, Arteries takes things to the next level in their quest for auditory domination with their upcoming sophomore album, making it abundantly clear that they’re not here to Play Nice.
