SHATTER BRAIN – Australian Thrashers Cover Motörhead’s Iron Fist in New Video

South Australian thrashers Shatter Brain present their cover of the Motörhead classic Iron Fist! First released by the Heavy Metal legends in 1982, Shatter Brain have taken the opportunity to cover the song and create a video. The video was produced and edited by Chalky at Moshriff Creative (http://moshriffcreative.com/) and features live live footage from the band’s recent “Tryna Tour in 2021 Tour”. The song was premiered yesterday at Triple J’s show THE RACKET!

Shatter Brain explain their choice with: “We’re big Motorhead fans and have been playing Iron Fist live for a while, so we put this down when we hit the studio last (to record our next EP, details TBA!). We’ve also been longtime admirers of Kurt Ballou’s work at GodCity Studio, so to work with him on this track was unreal! He really helped us take it to a different level.”

Shatter Brain are:
Tom Santamaria – Vocals
Matt Disisto – Guitar
Pat Callaghan – Bass
Ryan Quarrington – Drums

Bio
Shatter Brain are an Adelaide based metal band comprised of members of some of South Australia’s most successful heavy bands. Boasting a diverse vocal performance that ranges from ear piercing highs to sewer dwelling lows the band also draws on an eclectic but coherent range of influences and seamlessly blends fast, razor-tight rhythms with laid back grooves. Their sound is reminiscent of its contemporaries, such as High on Fire, Merauder, Black Breath, and Power Trip, with the occasional nod to classic metal and crossover.

Shatter Brain launched in January 2018, releasing a four-song demo that was mastered by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust, Power Trip, Cavalera Conspiracy). The release was accompanied by a video clip for the debut single “Rip the Stitch” (https://youtu.be/rT0hoiV1AsU), and was supported by an Australian & New Zealand Tour between Feb and April. This tour culminated with a debut home town show in front of over 650 punters at the annual Heavy SA Festival. Bootleg footage from this tour is documented in the music video for the band’s second single “Discard” (https://youtu.be/OfDZV_-_Fak). The band then commenced the “Rip the Stitch Asia Tour” in June/July. This tour included three shows in Taiwan, including a headlining performance at Wake Up Fest in Chiayi, and shows in Thailand and Malaysia as main support for Brazilian crossover-thrash legends R.D.P. (Ratos de Porão).

Upon returning to Australia, Shatter Brain released a split vinyl EP (aptly titled “The Twelve Inch Split”) with Melbourne band Blunt Shovel in early August and embarked on another tour with King Parrot and Blunt Shovel. The Twelve Inch Split featured two new Shatter Brain songs and a cover of the Mastodon classic “Blood and Thunder”. The release of the split was accompanied by a music video for the opening track “The Ship That Never Sinks” which featured footage of the band performing the song at Heavy SA earlier that year (https://youtu.be/yQWzjiyK1c4). 2018 also saw Shatter Brain supporting Power Trip (USA) on the Adelaide date of their Australian tour.

Shatter Brain began 2019 with a tour of Japan and returned to Australia to open for Max and Iggor Cavalera’s (Sepultura) “Return to Beneath the Arise” tour, during which Tom joined Max on stage to sing a rendition of AC/DCs “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”. In July/August, Shatter Brain entered the studio to record their debut album ‘Pitchfork Justice’ with Jimmy Balderston at Ghostnote Recording Studios (Scott Kelly, Sumeru, Space Bong). The band rounded out the year by supporting New Orleans sludge legends Eyehategod (USA) in November.

After starting 2020 by supporting punk-metal legends Integrity, Shatter Brain‘s ‘Pitchfork Justice’ was released worldwide by Wormhole Death Records/Aural Music on May 1st 2020. COVID-19 might have slowed us down in 2020, but we’re looking forward to confronting 2021 head on!

Recorded by Andy Kite at Against the Grain Studios.
Mixed by Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studios.
Mastered by Dav Byrne at Iridium Audio.
