THECODONTION Announce Long-Awaited Supercontinent Cassette Release

Out June 18 via Dybbuk Productions

Prehistoric Italian death metal duo THECODONTION is pleased to announce the long-awaited cassette release of the band’s 2020 debut album Supercontinent, due out June 18 via Dybbuk Productions.

LISTEN TO THE ALL BASS, NO GUITAR
SUPERCONTINENT EXPERIENCE HERE

Originally released during the earliest stages of the COVID-19 pandemic by I, Voidhanger Records (CD, digital) and Repose Records (vinyl), Supercontinent is a conceptual voyage through various stages of ancient Earth’s continental drift phase, from the earliest known supercontinent, Vaalbara, to the most recent, Pangaea.

THECODONTION formed in 2016 and quickly gained a cult following, thanks in part to a demo (2018’s Thecodontia) and an EP (2019’s Jurassic), before releasing their conceptual full-length debut Supercontinent. Thus far, the band’s material has been uncompromisingly fast-paced and length-wise short, featuring their signature distorted double bass attacks and blistering bass solos.

With SupercontinentTHECODONTION moves towards more atmospheric and intricate directions, with tribalistic drumming, slower and lengthier riffing, and wailing reverb-drenched leads, all played on bass except for a baritone guitar guest solo on “Laurasia-Gondwana.” Their blast-beating fury is nevertheless always present, this time around with a lot more variety in the riffing department.

On the visual front, the concept is perfectly embodied by the phenomenal artwork of Stefan Thanneur (Chaos EchœsHissing) with a colorful representation of the final supercontinental stage and climax of the record: Pangaea surrounded by the Panthalassa Ocean.

THECODONTION‘s Supercontinent is an atmospheric death metal sonic journey and another step for the ever-developing and evolving sound of this archaic entity. Limited to 100 copies, the band’s debut will see its cassette release June 18 via Dybbuk Productions.

THECODONTION is:

G.D. – bass
G.E.F. – vocals
