Northamptonshire Metalcore Newcomers Aside From That are back with their visceral new single ‘Hollow Shell’. Drawing influences from Polaris, Architects, and Periphery, ‘Hollow Shell’ encompasses the full spectrum of sonic assault with savage riffs, brutal breakdowns and magnetic vocals.
Masterfully layered in its sharpness and precision, ‘Hollow Shell’ delivers moments of depth and cleverness that will warrant repeat listens. Vocalist and Multi- Instrumentalist Phil Walker has left no stone unturned in channeling his anguish into bouncy riffs that have defined the djent category, while also working in slick melodic guitar leads and an off-kilter closing breakdown. The accompanying Music Video showcases an equally explosive presence lit with bright red and white flashes interweaved with the subject lost in the woods depicting the isolation that comes from going through a traumatic event.
Walker speaks on the new single “I try to write something that’s catching to ear while also keeping some new and old aspects of the single. Most of the lyrics come from personal experience in my life so you can expect relatable subjects within every lyric. I delved into my own struggles with mental health which caused me to be distant from everyone around me – the song was born from a strong feeling of loneliness. I’m happy to say that I overcame what I was going through and now have this song to show for it. Recording process was very straight forward as I worked with Brandon at Impactful Sounds Studios for all instrumentals and vocals with Neil at Initiate Sounds”
Aside From That’s debut single ‘The Heart of Dreams’ garnered global coverage and also saw Walker work with one of his biggest influences, Justin Aufdemkampe from Miss May I further solidifying the band’s ferocious sound. Created as a way to express personal experiences and connect with others to help them realize that they are not alone, Aside From That return with a single that packs a punch with a vital message behind it!
