Of all the “big comeback” metal albums, I was most impressed by Carcass’ Surgical Steel released in 2013. You could already hear then that it wasn’t just a patchwork, which is even more true for the new album – Torn Arteries. They’ve had quite a lot of time to ferment it, moreover the guys did not really want to jump on the nostalgia train. Bill Steer’s guitar playing is incredibly inventive and stunning. The songs are varied enough, so no one should listen to this masterpiece causally.
After all these years, this is professional work with mature songs. Young bands are being taught a lesson. 9/10
