Melbourne death metallers Scaphis just released their brutal new single ‘Plague’, the third & final offering from their sophomore album ‘Dissected & Fermented’ due for release on July 8th, 2022.
Erupting in a nostalgia-driven and aggressive wall of sound from the opening note, the group’s commendable musicianship builds and resolves tension effortlessly in a way that sends shivers down your spine. Vocalist Spyke Jagerkrieg spits fire laden with haunting hooks that will stay with the listener long after the song has finished Both varied & relentless, this new track is a great indicator of the death metal riffage, mesmerizing guitar hooks and face-melting solos listeners can expect from the upcoming album.
Jagerkrieg on the upcoming single: “This was one of the last songs that I wrote lyrics for, I was heavily inspired by Cattle Decapitation and wanted to express my frustration at the devastation humankind is inflicting on our beautiful planet. It’s a bit different to our usual themes, but easily one of my favorite tracks on the album. With an infectious groove and so much energy, it’s an absolute blast to play.”
Scaphis made an impressive debut with their album Rituals of Torture and Death’ in 2017 followed by a string of national shows including support slots for Bloodbath & Sinsaenum. Their current and previous body of music has been garnering global coverage including features on Metal Wani, Heavy Mag, Amnplify, Triple J, Moshville Times and more. ‘Plague’ stands as a powerful follow-up to the successful release of their title track ‘Dissected & Fermented’ & single ‘Blood Eagle’. With their sophomore album on the horizon and a year jam-packed with shows, Scaphis are set to reach new heights in the heavy music realm.
