Hypervirulence Architecture, the devastating second album from Washington’s extreme metal trio HISSING, is now streaming in its entirety on the eve of its official unveiling through Profound Lore Records and in conjunction with the band’s run of release shows which begin today.
Embodied by bassist/vocalist Zach Wise, guitarist Joe O’Malley, and drummer Sam Pickel, HISSING was formed in 2014 out of a mutual interest in mutilating sounds and exploring the outer limits of black and death metal, resulting in savage displays of ominous and dissonant noise-drenched death. The group aims to desecrate expectations with each subsequent release, which has included multiple independent EPs and demos, a 7″ EP on Southern Lord, a split with Sutekh Hexen on The Flenser, and more. Their debut LP Permanent Destitution saw release through Profound Lore in 2018 to widespread positive reactions from media and fans alike.
The second HISSING LP arrives in the form of Hypervirulence Architecture, an album which sees the trio take their sound into more nightmarish, trance-inducing, mercurial, and mind-altering sonic dominions. The album’s seven scathing movements were recorded and mixed by Detto and mastered by Dan Lowndes, the album adorned with cover and interior art by Sindre Foss Skancke and additional art by Ethan McCarthy.
Stream HISSING’s Hypervirulence Architecture in its entirety now at THIS LOCATION.
Profound Lore Records will release Hypervirulence Architecture on LP, CD, cassette, and all digital platforms tomorrow, July 15th. Find preorders for all formats and merch HERE.

“HISSING continue to defy easy categorization, mixing elements of cavernous death metal and drone/doom together with the unbridled intensity of a grindcore band, and this could well be their most unhinged and caustic release yet.” – The Quietus
“HISSING vend the sort of death metal that’s really more of a deformation of the genre than an exercise in it. Patterns ruthlessly honeycomb into hypnotizing rosettes beneath a fog of extremely raw production.” – Decibel Magazine
“…the band set about doing what they always do: unloading a neck-shredding concoction of schizophrenic rhythmical shifts, frantic riffs and vocals that cover more ground in one song than most bands do in their entire back catalogue. The musical ground that the band cover per song is something to truly step back and admire. 9/10” – Distorted Sound Magazine
“HISSING‘s music displays various influences, but make no mistake that this is an extreme record from beginning to end. I won’t get caught up in defining extremity here, but I believe if you are familiar with how noise and genres like death or black metal can meld in an exciting way similar to a collective like Sutekh Hexen you will know what I’m referencing.” – No Echo
