Influenced by classic Florida death metal, but seasoned with BOLT THROWER and PANTERA’s Texas groove, THROAT LOCUST seeks to create extreme music with a broad appeal. The new EP Dragged Through Glass will be unleashed on January 6th, 2023. Today, the band is streaming each fury fueled track over at Decibel Magazine. Stream Dragged Through Glass HERE.
Throat Locust became an idea at the beginning of 2022 with the drive to play fast and heavy death metal but keeping the groove that Texas lays down. The original concept came out at the end of 2021 when Eric and his friends attended Knotfest in Iowa (it was insane – Eric) and the main draw was to get his friends into GATECREEPER which would be their first time seeing them. After their set and watching his buddies turn into high school kids once again in the pit and loving life he decided that’s what he wanted to do, create a band that invokes that spirit and fun of metal. The next day they were walking around downtown Des Moines talking about the show and that’s when the band was conceived. When returning to Corpus Christi that’s when the work began looking for musicians that have that same dream and writing music. About halfway into 2023 musicians Gil Perez, Adrian Cavazos and Rob Cantu joined the band and the music started gaining its foothold. Alex Gregory was already a friend of Eric’s other band SWITCHBLADE JESUS and merch handler and was a part of the song structure in the beginning of THROAT LOCUST as him and Eric traded audio and riffs building up the structure of THROAT LOCUST.
July 2, 2022 the band entered the studio of Harbor City Sound Lab in Corpus Christi with engineer Bryan Garcia and started recording their demo Dragged Through Glass with the drive of making something they drives them all and music that inspired them growing up. With a mixture of death metal, thrash and hardcore breakdowns their first single “Axe Grinder” was released October 28th 2022 and then “Corruption and Greed” followed December 2nd 2022
As of now Throat Locust is in the works of a Texas tour, landed a spot in SXSW and set up with 2 festivals Gulf Coast Death Fest with bands like STABBING, PEELINGFLESH and BLOODBATH on the Bay to just start out their year. They are also in to process of new material and will have a special release coming up mid year.
