“INTER” offers six epic dirges saturated with an eerily mesmerising ambience. The songs and arrangements are meticulously woven together; plenty of time and effort was invested into an extensive pre-production process, during which the material underwent a comprehensive transformation from the initial draft to its final version. Consequently, when Fagus entered the studio, they had forged a crystal-clear understanding of what they wanted to accomplish and were able to initiate full tunnel-vision.
The band commented:
Outer space is often associated with a repellent and bleak infinity, suffering continuous decay driven by the rules of mathematics and physics. The song “Neptun I” is a counterargument to this, telling a story of fellowship and bonding in a seemingly lifeless cosmos. The fact that everything comes to an end – the main theme of “Neptun I” – is set by a melancholic and mid-tempo instrumental arrangement, starting and ending with the billowing sounds of the intro and outro.

Fagus – “Inter”
“INTER”, the debut album of German black metal quartet Fagus, offers six epic dirges deeply saturated with an eerily mesmerising ambience. The songs and arrangements are meticulously woven together, with the band having invested plenty of time and effort into an extensive pre-production process – during which the material underwent a comprehensive transformation from the initial draft to its final version. Consequently, when Fagus entered the studio, they had forged a crystal-clear understanding of what they wanted to accomplish and were able to initiate full tunnel-vision.
Once they emerged from the studio, they carried with them a comprehensive work of black metal fuelled by an atmosphere which, thanks to the tasteful interludes linking all the tracks together, does not let up from the first moment to the last. With some of its members involved in non-metal projects, there are plenty of influences from other forms of music – all processed through the lens of black metal. The result is a unique opus with many different layers to explore, likely to appeal to fans of bands like Imperium Dekadenz and Tardigrada.
“INTER” will be released by Silent Future Recordings on March 10, 2023. Recording, mixing, and mastering was performed by Christoph Brandes at Iguana Studios in the Black Forest, Germany.

Fagus was founded in Munich, Germany, around the year 2010. After performing a few local concerts, they recorded five songs for a mini-CD called “Urgewalt”. Since then, they have been working on their debut album – envisioning the entirety, composing the music, and piecing everything together. Fagus entered Iguana Studios in June 2020 and worked intermittently until the summer of 2021. After wrapping up the studio session, their paths crossed with the Swedish label Silent Future Recordings and an agreement to collaborate was reached.
The band commented:
Our debut album mainly deals with descriptions of natural phenomena and cosmic events, accompanied by the role of humans in nature and space. Some songs use philosophical and mystical backgrounds of the spirit to question the relevance of human ideas in an endless cold and dark cosmos. A characteristic of the album is the personification of cosmic events in order to contrast an infinite lifeless cosmos with the human emotions of love and fear.
