Sophie’s Threat, one of the greatest female-fronted Brazilian promises in the segment of Melodic Death/Thrash Metal, suffered two major losses in its formation with the departure of singer Malu Sales and guitarist Rodrigo Godoy due to musical divergences and different goals.
Founded in 2021, the band released their chaotic debut single “Infernal Manipulation” with a different singer, but the lineup with singer Malu Sales brought them greater recognition and popularity with the equally brutal singles “Suicidal God”, “Speaking Of The Devil” and the latest “Poison”.
After some auditions, Sophie’s Threat is proud to present their new singer, Felícia Andrade, together with the current line-up as a quartet consisting of Tiago Carteano (drums), Ricardo Oliveira (guitar) and Paulo R. “Satan” (bass).
After this excellent and fruitful phase, what could be better than releasing her debut EP titled “Phase One” on all digital platforms (and also on physical CD) and featuring all the singles released with Malu Sales on vocals.

Drummer and one of the founding members, Tiago Carteano, commented on changing the line-up and Felícia Andrade joining:
“We had known Felícia’s work for some time. Her name was one of the first that came to mind. With the help of our producer Michel Villares, we auditioned and recorded demos with all the candidates and chose Felícia for her differentiated timbre, versatility, excellent technique and especially for her beautiful clean vocals, as we were always looking for singers with clean melodic vocals. We wish Malu and Rodrigo Godoy the best of luck in their future projects and thanks to both of them for their commitment to the band.”
Felícia Andrade, the new singer, commented:
“I had already been called to test with them before, but I didn’t get to do it. I knew and liked their work very much, but I am very grateful to them for giving me the opportunity and for believing in me and trusting me, as well as being very grateful to Michel Villares for pointing me out. I hope to do a good job with Sophie’s Threat.”
Currently, Sophie’s Threat is working on the band’s first full-length album, still untitled and scheduled for release in the first half of 2024, but promising to keep the essence of good old Melodic Death/Thrash Metal.
MORE DETAILS:
Founded in São Paulo by the musicians Tiago Carteano (drums) and Ricardo Oliveira (guitar), it was baptized with this name as a reference to the robot Sophia, which can reproduce 62 facial expressions. It’s designed to learn to work among us humans, adapting to our behavior. This robot is the first humanoid to have the citizenship of a country (Saudi Arabia) and when asked in an interview if it would destroy humanity, it surprised everyone with the answer “yes”!
From this concept came the band’s name, a way they found to criticize how fast technological growth can destroy those who create it without thinking about the consequences.
Bringing daring and contemporary lyrics, heavy riffs, and a competent mix of thrash and melodic death metal, Sophie’s Threat showed efficiency, seriousness, and quality in material that is not recommended for sensitive ears, and promises much more for their next releases.
