“Leeches” is a horror movie in a song. The allegory depicts those who would force religion onto others as blood sucking leeches. In true misanthropic black metal style, the song delights in the suffering of those who are a speaker of hate. The devout religious follower sees an incoming end of days with no savior in sight. The final verse flips the common religious theme of a coming apocalypse heralded by the great harlot and the beast as a sign not of the second coming of a savior, but the ends of religious facism and tyranny.
This is the first song recorded by the band as a whole, as compared to debut EP, Purity, which was largely a solo effort by vocalist/guitarist Venomous and session bass player Hephaestus. Moving towards the completion of the writing of Lenax’s forthcoming full-length album, all members of the band had an impact on “Leeches.” Due to scheduling conflicts, Mordred covered bass guitar duty on the single, and the band brought in a session drummer while Profana was recovering from an injury.

Lenax are a Nashville-based melodic black metal band that first emerged in November 2022 as the brainchild of guitarist and vocalist Venomous. Born from a personal challenge to release original music before turning 50, the project quickly evolved from a solo act into a full fledged band known by a diverse and growing fanbase for their distinct blend of aggressive old-school black metal with esoteric and symphonic elements.
Drawing inspiration from classic acts like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, thrash metal’s Big Four, as well as black metal titans Immortal, Enslaved, Watain, and Dark Funeral, Lenax’s signature sound pays homage to their influences, while establishing them as pioneers of something new altogether, dubbed by Venomous as cosmic horror fueled nightmares – an immersive sonic rumination on rebellion against religion, revenge, and self-realizationthrough occult technology, with a distinct nod to Lovecraftian lore and historical magical texts.
Since releasing their debut EP Purity in October 2023, Lenax has garnered praise from both domestic and international press, with Rock Hard and Metalized featuring the band and The Metalverse lauding their ability to blend melody with black metal’s raw power. Never losing an ounce of momentum, the band’s noses remain firmly on the grindstone as they prepare for a busy year ahead, with two new songs and accompanying music videos already in the works for 2024, preceding a full-length album slated for a 2025 release.
