“Uniquely and unapologetically experimental. They made it to challenge their limitations, to test the outer limits of their own ambitions, and maybe even question the idea of what a Death Metal album could, or should, be.”
– No Clean Singing
“An album that all Metalheads should hear at least once.” (9/10)
– Metal-Temple
“An impressive project. The band immediately struck me with their creative power and ardor, which can be felt in every jolt of Ontology of Nought. The work is stunning, but it’s not for everyone.” (90/100)
– Acta Infernalis
“Ingurgitating Oblivison have condensed all the extremes and created an eventful album that is designed for repeated consumption.”
– Metal.de
“Ingurgitating Oblivion are inaccessible and harsh, but in this lies their many strengths, as the world that the band have crafted casts long shadows that will surely draw in select adherents of metal’s more arcane and rarefied arts.”
– Wonderbox Metal
“Ultimately I had to bow to their craft and commit to the effect of the full listen, the reward was more than worthy as the muse gathered, and the surreal world spawned within each piece, left a profound dent in mind.
A very high recommendation.”
– Mystification Zine
“It is definitely an album that is worth listening to because it offers a lot. A hell of a lot.”
– Apocalyptic Rites
Unsurprisingly, considering the band’s acclaimed body of work to date, this is no run-of-the-mill Tech-Death album. The talented duo of guitarist and engineer Norbert Müller and vocalist, guitarist, and composer Florian Engelke have outdone themselves again on Ontology of Nought! Epic-length tracks ranging from 10 to 18 minutes fuse into a cohesive whole that awes with the band’s characteristic technical flare and progressive, compositional brilliance. The impressive cast of session and guest musicians adds even more vibrancy. Hearing is believing.
Though it has been seven years since the last Willowtip release, Vision Wallows in Symphonies of Light, the forthcoming opus unequivocally demonstrates that the wait has been well worth it!
“You have fully delineated the subject of a universe of finiteness and change as well as the knowledge derived therefrom // Why should you be despondent in spite of all this, thinking that you are undone?”
– Ingurgitating Oblivion
The band released the following statement about the new album:
“Ontology of Nought is the result of approximately five years of incessant work. It documents whatever has been instilled into Ingurgitating Oblivion and the two minds pulling the strings behind the scenes: Norbert Müller and Florian Engelke. Trying to pinpoint some trite conceptual undercurrent would be to defile the beauty of creation. It feels alienating to us talking about our music and lyrics, as these stem from dichotomic dynamics of meticulous planning on the one hand and perfect intuition on the other. In like manner, the lyrics cannot be explained further here, but listeners are invited to do some work themselves and take a plunge into what could potentially encapsulate the world or denote nothing at all. Musically, we just do our own thing, celebrating our Death Metal heroes, more progressive Rock, jazz, folk, classical music. We do not strive to stand for any particular brand, but we simply enjoy being torn down the torrent of haphazard ideas, premonitions, and visions.
And that’s that.”
