Australian extreme metal outfit Ploughshare is thrilled to announce that their new album, “Second Wound”, is now streaming in full at No Clean Singing!
The site describes the album as “a mind-shearing and bone-smashing amalgam of black/death catastrophe, industrial-strength pulverization, warping electronics both hostile and hypnotic… and jazz (thanks mainly to what the bass does, even in the midst of audio apocalypse). Expect storms of dissonance and paroxysms of freakishness, the kind of vocals that spawn night terrors, and displays of sweeping, all-consuming fire that seem like a nuclear event.”
Second Wound, the highly anticipated follow-up to their 2018 debut In Offal, Salvation, continues the sonic devastation that Ploughshare is known for. Set to drop this Friday, November 8th via Brilliant Emperor Records and I, Voidhanger Records, this new album pushes the boundaries of their genre-defying approach, seamlessly blending black metal, death metal, doom, and dark electronic elements into a singular and visceral experience.

The album draws inspiration from anchoress Julian of Norwich‘s Revelations of Divine Love, a medieval book of Christian mystical devotions, making this record one of the darkest, most magmatic, and genuinely disturbing black/death metal releases to date. As the band explains, “‘Fall of All Creatures’ and the album as a whole take inspiration from the anchoress Julian of Norwich’s Revelations of Divine Love, as an expression of extreme asceticism, bodily privation and religious fervour.”
Mastered by the excellent Colin Marston, Second Wound reflects Ploughshare’s collective approach to songwriting, with members working both together and individually from 2019 to 2022. The result is a bold, unorthodox sound that transcends genre conventions while maintaining a disciplined focus. Their relentless experimentation ensures that Second Wound will further cement the band’s reputation as one of the most innovative forces in the underground metal scene. Pre-orders are now available at this here (Vinyl) and here (CD).
