Metal innovators OWDWYR have released the instrumental edition of their debut album, Receptor. Released one year ago, Receptor was widely praised by the press for setting a new standard for technical death metal.
This anniversary, instrumental edition will allow fans to delve deeper into the intricate arrangements and complex instrumentation that make Receptor such a groundbreaking work.
“While I love LOVE Max’s vocals, they have so much girth that they take up quite a frequency range,” says Paul Plumeri, the band’s primary songwriter and guitarist. “We wanted to choose our most proggy, layered tracks, and do a special instrumental mix and master so people could hear the rich tapestry of counterpoint and varied instrumentation.”
The band has shared a visualizer for the EP. This uncut sequence features a live liquid performance by Thomas Condry (malarkey.is). Watch the visualizer on OWDWYR’s YouTube channel.

Praise for Receptor:
“It is equal part genius, especially when the classical and other influences are in play – and equal parts utter chaos.” ~Teeth of the Divine
“Debut albums are not supposed to be as good as this, particularly when the band’s chosen mode of expression is jazz-inflected technical death metal. Marvelous stuff, and without doubt one of the best debuts of 2023.”
~Metal Bites
“This is a phenomenal debut effort from a band who bring it to some of the best progressive extreme metal bands in the business.” ~Heavy Blog is Heavy
“It is, in essence, dramatic Fleshgod-esque technical death metal caught in a Car Bomb, with Human Remains wonky grind scattered everywhere, while adaptations of (neo)classical, jazz, and Radiohead mosh on the sidewalk.” ~Angry Metal Guy
