NAKED WHIPPER set release date for long-awaited IRON BONEHEAD comeback album, reveal first track

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions announces January 31st, 2025 as the international release date for Naked Whipper‘s long-awaited second album, Chapel Defilement, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Arguably, Naked Whipper‘s cult status is second only to Necrovore. Formed in 1993 by lone deviant Dominus A.S., the band quickly released their first recording, a self-titled 7″ EP, that very year. However, it was Naked Whipper‘s debut album, 1995’s Painstreaks, where Dominus A.S. cemented his legendry. While the “second wave” of black metal was in full swing by then, Painstreaks was a defiant & debaucherous assault of BLACKGRIND. The lineage was there – from the berserker wave of earliest Brazil on to Blasphemy’s demo and fellow Germans Blood (Dominus A.S. did vocals on their classic Christbait from 1992) and then especially the early proto-bestiality of Impaled Nazarene, with ’80s Napalm Death connecting the dots – but on what would remain, for decades, their lone album did Naked Whipper assimilate those strains into something undeniably unique and unremittingly perverse. Quickly came the Moloch : Acid Orgy EP that same year, and while cultists (rightfully) hailed Painstreaks, this 15-minute assault was both tighter & wilder; think of it like Blasphemy’s Gods of War compared to Fallen Angel of Doom. Of course, Naked Whipper slipped into the shadows: not officially broken up, but not active at all, neither. Not like many were paying attention anyway – at the time and for well into the new millennium, the name was one mostly reserved for only the most diehard and transgressive.

And then, stirrings of activity… First, in 2022, Iron Bonehead reissued both Painstreaks and Moloch : Acid Orgy, and announced that Naked Whipper indeed were returning to the stage for the first time in over 20 years at the Never Surrender III fest in December 2023. And now, with that well-oiled lineup lubed up for action, Naked Whipper deliver their LONG-awaited second album: Chapel Defilement. Indeed, Chapel Defilement is the proverbial “best of both worlds,” as it’s the swift & succinct sound of Painstreaks and Moloch : Acid Orgy together, tighter and catchier and more caustic and more “fun” than it has any right being. It’s almost as if those 20-plus years never passed, so etched-in-time is the Naked Whipper aesthetic – and yet, in these days when bestial metal has blossomed into its own vibrant / overcrowded subgenre, Chapel Defilement sounds remarkably fresh. Much of that comes down the band’s songwriting, which has remained unyielding if not slightly more refined: blast, gallop, blast, repeat, with actual fucking RIFFS that you can remember. Naturally, there’s an ever-so-slight tightening of execution that’s maximized by the clear & crushing production, but one could argue that Naked Whipper could’ve delivered this kind of album in the late ’90s anyway. Either way you cut it, Chapel Defilement is a glorious & grimy return for a band that never wimped out, and it’s gloriously / grimily graced with another classic cover artwork from the legendary Chris Moyen!
