Through regal and wartime imagery, “Heavy is the Head that Wears an Imaginary Crown” casts the psyche as a kingdom under siege, where the ruler (the self) is caught in a fierce struggle against both internal demons and external pressures. The metaphorical “grey ooze” represents the suffocating force of depression and societal decay, relentlessly overtaking everything in its path.
