Legendary debut album “Melancholia” originally released by Cold Meat Industry in 1996, to receive new CD & Vinyl treatment after nearly 30 years
“Melancholia Redux” to feature re-recorded music, and rewritten English lyrics
Norwegian darkwave act Penitent have unveiled a new music video for the track “The Path of Shadows”, premiered through the dark music webzine Terra Relicta. This track is included on the band’s forthcoming enhanced re-release, “Melancholia Redux” set for release on 30 May 2025 via The Circle Music.

“Bringing these older tracks like ‘The Path of Shadows’ back to life for ‘Melancholia Redux’ and creating visuals for them allows a new perspective on the original feelings and poetry. This piece holds a particular significance from the original album, and working on the video allowed us to explore its atmosphere visually.”
“Melancholia Redux” is a reimagined version of Penitent’s 1996 debut album, “Melancholia” (Cold Meat Industry), which has been re-recorded and updated. This new version features rewritten English lyrics, updated music and new artwork.
At the same time, the digital single “Beyond the Whispering Echoes” has been released via all streaming services. Listen via Spotify.

“Melancholia Redux” is the first release in Penitent’s collaboration with The Circle Music. Future plans include further “Redux” versions of their back catalogue and new recordings.
Karsten Hamre, Penitent’s heart and soul, has followed a peculiar personal path and for more than three decades has remained consistent, dressing his poetry in black and eerie melodies. Not only did the passing of time not deter him, on the contrary, today he is possessed by a freshness that is like doing a complete restart. He has re-recorded a large part of the ten albums he has released to date, while at the same time making new plans for the future.
