LEPER COLONY comment: “All the songs on ‘Those of the Morbid’ are just death metal in the way that I like – great riffing, hooks and choruses that will stick in your head to which you can goof around”, vocalist Marc Grewe writes, while axe-master Rogga Johansson adds: “Remember, when death metal was all about cool riffs, awesome vocals, pounding drums, and lyrics about your favourite horror stuff? Well, this album is just that. Nine songs that pound and groove, and sharpen their teeth on your brain, with vocals that tear you one or two new orifices. If you’re on the lookout for the next new thing, you’re definitively barking up the wrong tree. This is wholesome and well tested filth for the buck. If you feel like skipping on the next jazz infused black metal neo classic space opera, you need to go no further than putting on ‘Those of the Morbid’. This album delivers just what you crave for when your soul thirsts for some real, rotten death metal.”

“Rogga, what is best in death metal?” “Cool riffs and awesome vocals to crush all enemies. Pounding drums to see them driven before you. And lyrics about your favourite horror stuff to hear the lamentation of the whimps!” This should have been the answer, if the movie “Conan the Barbarian” had been about a Swedish guitarist as a victorious pit-fighter on planet metal.
With their sophomore full-length, “Those of the Morbid”, LEPER COLONOY deliver exactly that and everything else that adherents of the classic death metal cult wish to hear. This is hardly a surprise, given the scene icons behind this international act:
LEPER COLONY are the result of wedding German and Swedish death metal styles with classic American influences. This happened, when German vocalist Marc Grewe and Swedish guitarist Rogga Johansson decided to expand their friendship of many years and mutual love for old school death metal into creating an album together in 2020.
The duo enlisted CONSUMPTION drummer Jon Skäre and lead-guitarist Kjetil Lyngahug (PAGANIZER) to record their self-titled debut album, which was released in 2023. The record was well received by critics and fans alike as it was obviously not just another ‘super project’, but a congregation of die-hard death metal fanatics coming up with a host of fresh ideas.
To introduce the current members of LEPER COLONY to any self-respecting death metal connoisseur would be like carrying coals to Newcastle. Just in case, German vocalist Marc Grewe has long-established his name as the former frontman of MORGOTH, and later with INSIDIOUS DISEASE as well as with the band ASINHELL. Guitarist and bass player Rogga Johansson has left a massive mark on Swedish death metal in a host of bands including PAGANIZER, RIBSPREADER, and REVOLTING. WOMBBATH guitarist Håkan Stuvemark has taken over lead guitar as a new member and he was joined by British drummer Jon Rudin, who is well-known from MONSTROUS and DEAD SUN among several other death metal acts.
With “Those of the Morbid”, LEPER COLONOY give old school death metal fanatics the very brutal and uncompromising album that they have been waiting for!
