The second track from their upcoming sophomore full-length, Into the Horrible Depths, continues CADAVER SHRINE‘s descent into sulphur-choked death metal. A grotesque follow-up to the first single “The Writhing Desperation of God”, this new hymn bleeds with doom-laden tension, murky riffwork, and choking atmosphere.
Hailing from the Netherlands, CADAVER SHRINE is the work of Mories (known for Gnaw Their Tongues, De Magia Veterum, Dodenbezweerder, and countless other vessels of sonic misery). Here, he channels his vision into pure, unfiltered old-school death metal, reeking of rot and despair. Drawing from the sepulchral legacy of early Incantation, Grave, and Rottrevore — yet unmistakably personal in execution — CADAVER SHRINE trades polished production for suffocating atmosphere, where every riff sounds clawed from beneath a mound of dirt.
Into the Horrible Depths is a death-doom sermon dragged through mud, fire, and madness. The album offers no redemption — only reflection in the bile of existence. From fetid blasts to slow-motion breakdowns of decay, it’s a record meant for listeners who find comfort in the filth.

BIOGRAPHY:
Emerging from the depths of the underground, CADAVER SHRINE embodies the raw, unrelenting spirit of old-school death metal, infused with a bleak and oppressive doom influence. Formed in 2022 by Maurice de Jong – the prolific mastermind behind Gnaw Their Tongues, The Sombre, Cloak of Altering, and countless other extreme projects CADAVER SHRINE is a relentless force that channels the decay and despair of early ‘90s death-doom metal, evoking the primal weight of Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Autopsy, and Incantation.
CADAVER SHRINE made its first mark with the “Extinction Reborn” demo, a release that set the foundation for the suffocating sound that followed. The project’s debut full-length, “Benighted Desecration”, released in 2022 via Chaos Records, expanded on this visión – offering a funeral march of crushing riffs, slow, pounding drums, and guttural, cavernous vocals. Deeply rooted in the darkest corners of death metal and doom, the album delivered a grim atmosphere of relentless decay, earning recognition for its sheer weight and oppressive sonic presence.
Now, with their latest release, “Into the Horrible Depths”, CADAVER SHRINE ventures even further into the abyss. This 2024 offering is a bludgeoning, nightmarish descent into utter sonic ruin, amplifying the band’s already suffocating, low-end rumble. With themes of horror, death, and decay, the album leaves no room for life—only death and rot remain.
Maurice de Jong’s extensive background in dark ambient, black metal, and experimental noise seeps into CADAVER SHRINE’s sound, making it more than just a throwback act. While the thick, cavernous production and crawling tempos recall the heaviest moments of Spectral Voice, Grave Upheaval, and Encoffination, CADAVER SHRINE also embraces an atmosphere of total dread, making each release a suffocating experience in itself.
For those seeking death metal in its purest, most oppressive form, CADAVER SHRINE is a funeral march into oblivion.
