The new two-song single from Budapest-based Orv, titled Harbinger, is out now and available on digital platforms. The single’s title track, Harbinger, leads the listener through the next stage of Orv‘s mix of grim and melodic black and death, and points towards their forthcoming first full-length album. The second track is a cover of the eponymous song of the legendary Hungarian counterculture indie band Europa Kiadó.
Harbinger is a continuation of Orv‘s previous records, especially of the last Calmness is Pretence EP released by Iron, Blood and Death Corporation. However, the aim now was to take all the characteristic elements to the next level. The structure is more elaborate, the melodic line more focused, the lyrics more conceptual. The new song hints at the direct yet oppressive mood of the new material in the making. So it is the arrival of the Harbinger, whose message is not to be deciphered or understood, but to which one must only expose oneself.
Európa Kiadó is a song originally from 1982 by the Hungarian alternative band of the same name, still active today. The band and the song is a defining symbol of the 1980s counterculture. Orv‘s version is a tribute to an epochal work by a legendary band, and the crossing of stylistic boundaries is a link between two worlds, an experiment where the guidelines, the original Hungarian lyrics and melodies of the song are transposed into a new context.
The mixing and mastering of the single is the work of Erik Vándor (RX-studio), who has helped to take the sound to a higher level.
The single is available on the major streaming platforms and on YouTube as a lyric video.
