Slaves Of The Wolf is the absolute definition of what metal should look and sound like, not to mention a glorious heaping of absolute death from start to finish. – New Noise Magazine
If someone asks you what Metal is, this is the kind of record you can hand them and say check this out. It’s that good. – Metal Noise
Riffs churn with militant precision, vocals roar like battlefield commands, and the album’s structure feels deliberate, even tactical. From the opening title track to the crushing closer, this is music with a mission. To bury one under its weighty themes and punishing grooves. – Amplify The Noise
Three albums in, Bear Mace have taken stock in how to write invigorating music…From stomping chugs to deafening guitar solos, Slaves Of The Wolf is clear-cut death metal. – Heavy Music HQ
Chicago death metal veterans BEAR MACE release their long-awaited third album Slaves of the Wolf today. The album marks a new creative high for the band, delivering their most cohesive, crushing work to date.
In the heart of Chicago’s metal scene, BEAR MACE have spent the past five years solidifying and sharpening their sound. Vocalist Chris Scearce, guitarists Mark Sugar and Tommy Bellino, drummer Garry Naples, and bassist John Porada bring a unified vision to Slaves of the Wolf, an album steeped in themes of warfare, survival, and the brutal cycles of history. Copies of Slaves Of The Wolf are available HERE.
Opening with the title track, which recounts the doomed march of German soldiers into Soviet Russia, Slaves of the Wolf sets the tone for an album that explores the grim realities of combat and the human condition. Tracks like “Worthless Lives” reflect on dystopian modern existence, while “Drown Them in Their Blood” delivers a mid-tempo, Bolt Thrower-inspired assault.
The album also features a special appearance from death metal legend MASSACRE’s Kam Lee on “Captured and Consumed,” which recounts the harrowing story of U.S. pilots cannibalized during WWII.
Recorded at Hypercube Studios and Miracle on Mace Street Studios, with engineering by Sanford Parker and mixing/mastering by Damian Herring, Slaves of the Wolf delivers a raw, dynamic sound. The album artwork by Dedy Badic perfectly complements the record’s grim, historical themes.
