An Danzza Interview

1. …It’s a pleasure to see you!
I’d like to let everyone know the fascinating music of An Danzza, because many of us need such beautiful voices with considerable healing power.
Please introduce your band and tell us the story of how you got to know each other! How has the lineup of your band changed since the beginning? How long have you been together?

2. I’ve got to admit that I have known your music since last year, but from that time it has been enchanting me for every listening of your newest songs. One remarkable thing for me is that you are making this type of charmingly beautiful music in a fullhearted manner. All compliments for making it on your own effort and talent! How could you describe the music of An Danzza? For whom would you recommend giving a closer look at it?

3. It took six years to complete your first album. How do you remember achieving this very first milestone of the band’s career? How did the recording of this album go? What has changed in your songwriting routine since then?

4. Please summarize for us you’re amazing twenty years! Which values have you created from the early days? How do your early records look like in terms of sound and lyrics? Which direction did your musical evolution take throughout the years?

5. I realized that there are not too many physical copies of your albums that were released, but all of them are available in digital format. What is the reason for that? Maybe this is the way you stay independent, preserving the unaffected clarity of An Danzza’s music?

6. We also had to wait for ten years for your first live show. To put it more accurately, your first concert was in 2016. How do you recall this event? What memories do you have of it?

7. The main reason for this interview is your tenth album, titled “Encantandast, which is going to be released on the 21st of March. The songs tell us a lot about ancient myths and stories capturing the listeners’ attention. What made you choose these stories? Where did you find all of them?

8. In which aspects “Encantadas” has changed compared to your previous album? For those who know your discography, which of your album could you compare it the most?

9. In addition to that, I’m very curious about the making of this record. Where have you recorded it, and how did the writing and selection of your new songs go? Have you put all your newborn songs into this record? Can we expect physical copies?

10. I absolutely loved all melodies on this album, but “La encantá” is my greatest favourite. Could you tell us more about it?

11. You also released a few videos to “Encantadas”. Where have these videos been captured? What made you choose this gorgeous landscape?

12. An Danzza’s concert was postponed from December to the 14th of May, and it features Layali Alkasar, amazing oriental dancer performing during the songs of “Encantadas”. What can we expect from that evening? Maybe it will be recorded or streamed somewhere?

13. I suppose that nature plays a crucial role for you, that it inspires you to make these great songs. Could you tell us about your time spent on the Iberian Peninsula, and all the wonders you met there? Could you mention a couple of beautiful landscapes which you always desire to visit?

14. Now please tell me something about your personality! How eccentric or ordinary people do you deem yourself? What values are you considering the most important?

15. What can we expect from you in the future? What kind of goals do you have? Do you have some cherished dreams waiting to be accomplished?

16. Many thanks for your kind answers! I wish you lots of joyful years spent with music!

Now available: Encantadas, the tenth album by An Danzza, inspired by the fairies of the Iberian Peninsula

The fantasy folk/world music project An Danzza has just released Encantadas, its tenth studio album, on digital platforms. This new album, with a more medieval and folk sound than its predecessor Visions of a volva (2023), marks a return to its roots and even features an original Murcian jota titled La encantá. Based in Madrid with Murcian origins, the band delves into the stories of the Iberian Peninsula, collecting legends of enchanted beings – the “fairies” of our folklore – from as diverse locations as Guadalajara, Madrid, Asturias, Galicia, Cantabria, Catalonia, Extremadura, Murcia, Euskadi, and Portugal. The result is eleven folk-medieval tracks that immerse the listener in tragic legends, balancing between fantasy and the pure essence of our ancestors. As a fun fact, the track Fecha os olhos (a Portuguese legend) is performed entirely in Portuguese as a nod to the thousands of Portuguese-speaking fans who have supported the project almost from its inception.

As with previous works, the production has been completely independent and was handled by composer Andrés Campuzano, who founded the project over 20 years ago in Madrid. Singer Haydée Mariñoso, who has been the vocalist for An Danzza since 2015, lent her voice to this new work.

Tracklist of Encantadas:

  1. La encantada de Usanos (legend from Guadalajara)
  2. Xana (Asturias)
  3. Alojas (Catalonia)
  4. Moura (Galicia)
  5. La encantá (Murcia)
  6. Las hadas del Hayedo de Montejo (Madrid)
  7. Fecha os olhos (Portugal)
  8. Cantamora (Usagre, Extremadura)
